Frequently Asked Questions

.

I have my bible.   Why should I look for truth and wisdom anywhere else?

Well, as long as you're independently wealthy, your home-life is profoundly joyous, your sex life is completely fulfilling, your career is phenomenal, and you’re in perfect health, you shouldn’t.   If you are absolutely certain you already know all there is to know, then don't waste your time with us.

But, if you can possibly imagine that God is so big that you can't confine him in just your religion, then you have a profound opportunity to see a face of God that you've previously overlooked.

.

Do you believe in God?              Do you believe in God

Before we can answer that question, we need to define what you mean when you say "God."     Are you talking about a fickle, angry, jealous, vindictive, vengeful, super-human being sitting on a cloud somewhere who (for reasons that completely escape human understanding and with what seems like arbitrary unpredictability) heaps great good fortune onto some, horrendous misery onto others, and pretty much ignore everyone else.

Are you talking about a god with an ego so great that  he damans our worship and a self-image so  small that he demands our obedience -- a god so weak that he needs our help to punish the unfaithful -- a god so weird that he murdered his own son as an expression of love -- a god so angry and unforgiving that he's still punishing people today because a long dead ancestor ate fruit from a forbidden tree -- a god so small he exists only inside of your religion?   If that's your definition of God, then the answer is no.    I don't believe anything which fits that description could possibly be God..  I'd sooner believe that the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny were living in my attic.

When you ask, "Do you believe in God?"  if you are talking about the source of creation that transcends our understanding --  if you are talking about the sum total of all that is --  the source of everything we are and everything we experience  -- if you are talking about a god that offers a set of invisible laws --  laws that are as immutable as the law of gravity, laws that we each can intentionally use to create our own personal experiences (or ignore at our own peril)   -- a "God" that we are each a part of -- a "God" that is love, joy, and beauty manifesting itself in what we call the physical world?   If that's your definition of God, then the answer is "DEFINITELY YES,  I DO BELIEVE IN GOD!"

I want to help my community and be of service, but I don't know what to do.  What can you suggest?

First, acknowledge yourself as an important and integral part of the global community, then answer the question, "What would love do in my situation?"  Here are some possible answers:  Hug your family members and tell them you love them.   Be in community with your close friends.  Start a mutual support team  (i.e. create an expanded family)  with your friends and neighbors.   Ask the following question of others you contact: "Is there something you need that I can assist you with?   Discuss with family and friends the truths you find on the  content page of The Book of Universal Truths and Wisdom.

.

I just looked at you web page on the abortion controversy.   It looks to me that you're promoting you own point of view on this issue.   Why are you doing that?

Because one of the major intentions of The Book of Timeless Truths and Wisdom is to present all sides of controversial issues and let the readers make up their own mind.  If you have a different point of view that's not already published on our web site, send it to us and we'll add it to the book and to the web site.

I've heard people say:  "Think globally and act locally."  What does that mean?

(Obviously we don't eat elephants, so think of the elephant mentioned below as a symbolic metaphor.)

If someone were to ask you, "How do you eat and elephant?" you'd probably say,
"One bite at at time."  You'd be conscious of the entire elephant, you'd know your actions were related to the entire elephant, and then you'd focus on and eat a single bite.

Do the same thing in your life.   Be aware of the entire world, realize you are an integral part of it, and then take one small step in the direction of making this world a better place for yourself and for all the rest of us to live in.

Then ask yourself this question: “What small step can I take today that will enhance or serve both myself and the process or the accomplishment of the goal:  Ending Ignorance and Senseless Violence?”

That step may seem insignificant to you, at this time. It may even seem so small as to be hardly worth doing; however, I assure you, whatever you have to offer, no matter how small it may seem, when combined with the small steps of many others, is an important and valuable contribution to the success of this project.

You might assist a neighbor, or perhaps you could start recycling things you use to put in the trash, or perhaps you'll decide  to Contact Us and send us a donation.   Exactly what you do is completely up to you.  Your doing is much more important than what you do because, if and when you take action, it means you've moved from being part of the problem to being part of the solution.

Thank you for opening you mind, for opening your heart and for taking that step today. Your courage is creating a more tolerant and loving society and is helping to end ignorance and senseless violence.

Your action, whatever that may be, PLEASE DO IT NOW!

A lot of the messages in this book don't mean anything to me.   Why?  And can you help me to understand what I'm reading?

Most of the worlds greatest literature is written in a artistic format as distinct from a literal format that one would find in such things like a recipe book, an instruction manual, or a legal document.

Art  is the process whereby humans can connect to that realm of reality the transcends the intellect. The artist is sending a message that defies translation into ordinary human terms or that contains a message that is much bigger that the artist can or chooses to physical say.   The artist invites the viewer/listener/reader into the creation process.  For example here's the briefest of poetry that conveys far more than the eight words it contains:  "It wasn't raining when Noah built the Arc."   (Howard Ruff)

Unless the listener brings him/herself into the essence underlying these eight words, they are all but meaningless.  So when you read poetry and literature, read with your mind and your heart.   Think outside the box.  Allow yourself to enter that world where dreams are made.   There's where you'll receive the artist's message.

The same principles apply to music and art.  It just takes a little practice.  Relax.  Be Patient.  Ask yourself, "What does this mean to me?  Trust yourself.
