The Claim:   When we get beyond all the media hype and  dogma peddling, the fundamentalist Christian claims boil down to this:   

One:  The scientific theory of evolution does not have all the answers.   The only other possibility is that God  stepped in and filled in the gaps.    We know this is correct because the Bible tells us so.  God obviously created man and the universe in six Earth days.  All you have to do is read the Bible to know that fact.   Therefore, we should teach public school children about Christian Creationism as well as scientific evolution. 

Two:  Something as complicated as the universe must have an intelligence behind it.   Evolution doesn't answer the question about the intelligence that created the universe, but the our Christian Bible does.   Because our Bible is the absolute, literal truth,  we have the answer and the only answer -- God created everything in six Earth days.   Therefore, we should  teach school children about Creationism as well as evolution.

Lies of Omission        ...

The Lies of Omission:   The fundamentalist Christians completely ignore another very likely possibility.   What if the nature and function of the "The Creator" of what we call physical matter transcends human knowledge and understanding.   

u   The most notable religious scholars throughout the centuries have said  that God is unknown and unknowable.   See the section titled:  Spiritual Awareness.° 

u   Even their own Bible tells the Christians that they cannot know how God functions.    Ecclesiastes 11:5, RSV  "As you do not know how the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of the woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.”

u   And even the official Roman Catholic Encyclopedia cannot answer the vital  questions about the source of life, or what life is, or when it begins.   Here's a direct Quote:   

"The enigma of life  [the puzzle about what life is] is still one of the two or three most difficult problems that face both scientist and philosopher, and notwithstanding the progress of knowledge during the past twenty-three hundred years,  we do not seem to have advanced appreciably beyond the position of Aristotle in regard to the main issue.

l   What are its  [life's] characteristic manifestations? 

l   What are its chief forms? 

l   What is the inner nature of the source of [life's] vital activity? 

l   How has life arisen? 

Such are among the chief questions which present themselves with regard to this subject."

u   They completely ignore the possibility that humans are eternal, divine beings who simply inhabit physical bodies.°     

u   They completely ignore the scientific evidence that contradict their religious beliefs.°  

The Language:   To communicate with the fundamentalist Christians, we must understand and speak their language.    In order to end their demands to teach the Christian religion in public schools, or to countermand those demands,  we have to talk "Religion" to these people.   They simply don't understand and/or refuse to listen to any other language.   If you don't yet know how to do that, let us teach you.  

The Solution:   Because  the fundamentalists  insist on adding the Christian belief system to the scientific theory of evolution, we  demand that they also teach creationism from the perspective of the Eastern religions which teach reincarnation.   The fundamentalist will be repulsed at this idea.  

They will have two options,  subject their religious beliefs to intellectual scrutiny, or end their demands.   Because subjecting an article of faith to open questioning is just not allowed in Christianity, they will most likely back off.    Here's how to implement this plan:

The Tactics:   Agree with  them.   Say something like the following:

If this approach is used consistently and persistently, it will almost certainly derail and end the anti-evolution war.   Why?   Because it will completely change the nature of the debate.    As the battle stands now, the anti-evolution leaders (the rightwing, fundamentalist Christians) are peddling creationism as if  it were simply Godly Christians against atheist evolutionists.   

The Anti-evolutionist are Peddling a False Impression:  The anti-evolutionist leaders intentionally give those who listen to them the false impression that all  scientists are atheists -- that evolution is a product of atheistic thinking.   This is a gross misstatement and a serious misrepresentation of the facts.   In the science community, you'll find a wide variety of beliefs, far more than just atheism.   And with regard to the religious beliefs of scientists, it's definitely not that the members of the scientific community embrace atheism, it's that they reject the outlandish, unprovable claims of fundamental Christianity.   

When you examine the available evidence, you'll find that the evolution theory actually  makes no religious claims about what God is or does.   It merely reports the scientific findings and suggests the most plausible explanations about what the evidence seems to indicate.   If you ask members of the scientific community about the source of the universe, most of them will  say that they do not have enough evidence to draw any absolute conclusions.

They simply do not make claims about the character and nature of the source of the universe we commonly refer to as "God."   The following quote from the globally renowned scientist, Max Plank, is a example of the commonly held,  scientific perspective on this topic.   He made the following statement as part of his Nobel Prize acceptance speech:

   "As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear-headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you, as a result of my research about atoms, this much:  There is no matter as such.   All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particles of atoms to vibration and holds this most minute solar system together.   We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind.   This mind is the matrix of all matter."

Evolution and Reincarnation:   Another significant consideration is that  the scientific findings regarding evolution are totally consistent with  and compatible with reincarnation theory.    And they deeply conflict with and do not support Christian theology.  (i.e. beliefs such as a human being is his/her physical body)

By bringing the religious theory about reincarnation into the anti-evolution debate, the controversy becomes a brand new game.  It's no longer  simply an emotion peddling campaign of good Christians against evil atheists.   It's now one religion's theology  against another religion's theology with the scientific evidence very strongly opposing Christian Creationism and offering significant support for reincarnation theology.   And when you add in the factors listed above under the heading, Lies of Omission, the anti-evolutionists find their belief system is being seriously challenged. 

In this new,  three sided debate, the  anti-evolutionist are  faced with two choices:    1)  expose their sheep to another very logical and very probable religious theory about reality that is in complete harmony with their arch-enemy, scientific evolution or 2)  simply be quiet on the subject.   If they are wise and wish to maintain their power positions, they'll shut up.
